When you think of Morocco, visions of aromatic couscous, vibrant spices, and charming handicrafts may come to mind. On our recent getaway to Morocco, a short two-hour flight from Spain took us to Tangier—a lively northern city that became the perfect starting point for an unforgettable adventure. As a Barcelona resident who has taken multiple journeys to Morocco with friends, I’m excited to share some of our favorite spots and experiences.
Tangier

1. Restaurant Ahlen: Best restaurant to eat couscous Moroccan and tajin

Located in the heart of Tangier, Restaurant Ahlen – my friend’s reccomendation – quickly became a favorite during our stay. This gem offers authentic Moroccan dishes, including delicious couscous and tajine, all served at very reasonable prices. To cap off your meal, enjoy a soothing tea service that perfectly rounds out the experience.

2. Shopping: Discover Local Treasures
Tangier’s streets are lined with delightful shops selling everything from intricately designed cups to handwoven carpets. Each corner offers a chance to pick up unique souvenirs and immerse yourself in the local culture.
3. A Hearty Moroccan Breakfast

In Morocco, breakfast is a grand affair, offering a generous spread of freshly baked breads, eggs, olives, and plenty of tea. Be sure to try Msemmen, a delicious, flaky flatbread, and Harcha, a rich, buttery semolina bread. With their hearty portions, it’s best to pace yourself and savor every bite!
Chefchaouen
1. Picture-Perfect Blue Streets
Chefchaouen, famously known as the Blue Pearl of Morocco, is a photographer’s paradise. Every street and alley is adorned with stunning blue hues, offering endless opportunities to capture breathtaking images.

2. Tea on a Terrace with a View
Unwind on one of Chefchaouen’s quaint terraces with a cup of traditional Moroccan tea and some local cookies. The view, especially at sunset, creates a magical backdrop that enhances the relaxed vibe of your Morocco weekend trip.

Bonus: Charming Cat Encounters in Morocco

Throughout your journey, you’ll also be greeted by adorable stray cats. Their playful antics and soulful gazes add an extra touch of warmth and character to the local ambiance, reflecting the friendly spirit that makes every Morocco weekend trip truly memorable.
